Dr. Joseph H. Dimon, III, Orthopaedic Surgeon, founding partner of Peachtree Orthopaedic Clinic, native southerner and beloved friend to many the world over, died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, March 24, 2014 at his home in Northwest Atlanta. He died surrounded by his family, after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease. He was 84 years old.
Dr. Dimon, known by family, friends and colleagues the world over as simply "Skoot," hailed from Columbus, Georgia where he was born on February 16, 1930. President of his Senior Class at Columbus High School, he went on to graduate Phi Beta Kappa from The University of The South in Sewanee, Tennessee in three years. At age 19, he attended Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City, graduating in 1953. He then served in the U.S. Army at Fitzsimmon's Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado and later in Germany for two more years.
He completed his orthopaedic residency through the Harvard Program at Children's Medical Center and at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where he was Chief Resident in his final year. Returning to his native Georgia in 1960, Dr. Dimon joined Robert Wells, MD, and James Funk, MD to form the Peachtree Orthopaedic Clinic (P.O.C.) where he continued to practice for 40 years . . .
